BRUNNER NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent.] At the first meeting of the new Brunner Borough Council, held on May 18, the installation of the Mayor and Councillors took place. There were present: Mr. J. Smeaton (Mayor), Councillors W. Barber, WGutberlet, T. Harper, R. Fordham and G. H. S. Eder. Cr. McLagan was absent owing to business out of the district. The Mfiyor extended a welcome to the Councillors. Mr. Gutberlet was appointed Deputy Mayor It was resolved that the Finance Committee consist of the whole Council, with Cr. W. Barber as Chairman, also that the Works Committee consist also of the whole Council with Cr. R. Fordham as Chairman. Any two Councillors with the Treasurer were appointed to sign the cheques. The meeting night was fixed for the last Saturday in each month. Cr. Harper offered congratulations to the Mayor on his election as representative on the Greymouth Harbour Board for the combined districts of Brunner and Runanga.

A shop day is to be held in Taylorville on Saturday in aid of the Plunket Society Funds. Miss A. Moore, of Wellington, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Moore, Stillwater. Miss S. Croft, of Stillwater, is an inmate of the Grey Hospital. Mr. A. Barber, of Dobson, is an inmate of the hospital suffering with pneumonia. I

Mr. J. Ferguson, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. Butterfield, of Taylorville, has left on return to Ashburton.
