BRUNNER NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent.] At the monthly meeting of the. Brunner Women’s Institute held in[ Dickson’s Hall, Wallsend, on Thurs-I day evening, Mrs Porteous presided! over a fair attendance. The meeting opened with the Institute song, Mrs Gutberlet playing the accompaniment. Two visitors were welcomed, also one new member. The motto for the month was, “It is enough to be pleasant when life flows on like a song, but the man worth while is the man who can smile when everything goes dead wrong.” The roll, call, “What I enjoy on a wet day,” brought amusing and useful answers. The report of the Federation meeting was read. Mr Chibnall gave an interesting talk on road traffic safety, and was accorded a vote of thanks. Mrs Devlin was the winner of the pink satin cushion. It was decided to hold another shop day in the near future, three dips to be an added attraction. Two competitions were held, and the visitors were the judges. Results were: Iced chocolate cake, Mrs Barber 1, Mrs Bennie 2; clothes peg bag, Mrs Bennie. Funny stories by members added much to the evening’s enjoyment. The hostesses, Mesdamos Barber, Messer, Slater, and Moore, served a dainty supper. The meeting closed with the reading of the aspirations.

, Mr J. Pender, of Taylorville, pas left on a few days' visit to Oxford.
