N.Z. EDUCATION
NOT GETTING RESULTS. FARMERS’ UNION VIEWS. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 19. Dissatisfaction with the present system of education in New Zealand was expressed by delegates at the Auckland Farmers’ Conference, today, and after a lengthy discussion, a resolution was carried requesting the Government to appoint experts to bring about the results required. Expressing agreement with the suggestion that the fundamentals of music should be taught, Captain Rushworth said the requirements of the University appeared to be training young men and women to live by their wits, at the expense of the public.
Mr R. A. S. Brown criticised the ordinary parent for not giving sufficient encouragement in the home. Discussing the aim of youth, he said that apart from the social graces in which they went the limit, young people were rather aimless.
