The whole primary trend, at present, is against the C. 1.0. (Received May 19, 11.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 19. ,
A blow to the New Deal and a new hope to the Republicans is seen in the outcome of the Pennsylvania Primary Election, a feature of which is the failure of Mr. James A. Farley, the Federal Postmaster-General, to secure the election of candidates who represented a coalition between the New Deal and the Committee of industrial Organisation. The “New York Times” states. The result is regarded as being the most important political development since 1930, and as one depreciating the national political importance o.t Mr. John L. Lewis, the C. 1.0. Labour Leader, and the Committee of Indus trial Organisation, and also as casL ing a shadow over the newly-bright-ened picture before the followers ot the New Deal. Simultaneously the development is one quickening the spirits of Republicans, who see indi cations of a November election vic tory in this Democratic split in Penn sylvania.
