Saturday’s football was played in] fine weather, under perfect ground! conditions. The onlj’ match played on Victoria Square was between those keen riv- 1 als, Stars and Old Boys, an< as usual when these two teams meet, the spectators were provided with an ex-| citing game. Stars were favoured by the experts, but Old Boys turned I on one of their characteristic passing i games, and Stars were outclassed. Points were scored for Old Boys by Robinson, W. 'Weenink, Smith and McNeight (tries), and conversions by ■ Phipps and Stewart. I Buller Rugby Union: | The following were present at the weekly meeting of the Buller Rugbyi Union’s Management Committee on] Saturday evening: Messrs A. G. Col- , Vin (chair), M. B. Scully, J. McF.naney, J. Mason, H. Casey, J. Macky, N. Goodall. T. Phibbs, and W. Craddock (secretary).

Mr J. Lockhart. Denniston, attended the meeting, and asked the committee to do all in its power to assist Rugby as played by the Dennis-] ton third grade team. He said when the Pirate Club decided to turn to the League code, the third grade players remained loyal to the old game. Mr Lockhart said there were a lot of Rugby supporters at Denniston, and he hoped to see a revival of the game in the near future. He expressed appreciation of the Star team’s visit to Denniston at short notice last Sundaj' to give the team a game at home. Messrs Colvin and Craddock commended Mr Lockhart on his enthusiasm. and promised to give his team every assistance possible. Mr Lockhart’s request for a ball for training was granted. The selectors were asked to forward nominations of Buller players for the South Island and New Zealand teams. Dates for home-and-home and Seddon Shield matches with West Coast and a game against Marlborough at Blenheim on June 11 were endorsed bv the unions concerned. The withdrawal of the Tiroroa senior team from the competition owing to a shortage of players were received with regret, and it -was decided to reclassify E. Nicholson and J. Jones from senior to junior. The application of White Star Club to have D. A. Hudson, J. Macky and R. Cavanagh added to their senior list was granted, provided the persons concerned countersign the apolication. G. Williams was added to the Old Boys senior list. Attention of players desiring transfers is drawn to the rule stating that all applications by clubs must be countersigned bj' the men concernedMr Craddock, delegate to the annual conference of the New Zealand Union, reported on the business transacted on behalf of the Union. He said that he found it impossible to arrange a tour of the North Island before the first Seddon Shield match. After delegates from some unions had not taken kindly to the Wanganui proposal that an All Black team tour the Dominion next year, he (Mr Craddock) acquainted them with the position of backblock unions, and impressed them with the need for encouraging the game more in these parts. He said it came as a great surprise to most delegates to know that Buller in its long existence as a union had only had one visit from an overseas team, while Greymouth had had matches with almost every overseas team which had toured the Dominion. He felt sure that Buller would be treated more sympathetically in future. The Union had offered £B5 for a Buller team to play a match at Blenheim on June 11, and he had accepted this proposition. This match would be the main attraction of the Marlborough Union’s jubilee celebrations. Besides the home-and-home matches with West Coast, games would be played with Canterbury at Christchurch on September 17, and at Westport on September 3. A team from Wellington would «dso tour the West Coast, and would play a match with Buller at Westport on Wednesday, August 24. A promise had been made to assist the annual Seddon Shield districts’ primary school tournament to be held at Westport this season. Mr Craddock expressed appreciation of the assistance given by his codelegate, Mr King! Tahiwi. Mr Craddock was thanked for his efforts, and arrangements made by him for matches were confirmed.
