LAWN DERBY TRIES FOR RECORD.

SYDNEY, May 16.

Lawn Derby, the outstanding pacer in Australia, attempted to break the Australasian mile free-legged pacing record at Harold Park Course to-day, but failed, his time being 2mins. 2 4-5 sec., or 2-5 of a second outside of Watla Walla’s time. The track, however, was slightly on the holding side. Later, Lawn Derby broke her own course record for a mile and half by two seconds, when he won the Harold Park Handicap in 3.14 1-5. Gay Chou, now owned by W. Devon, is to do its future racing in New Zealand.
