BOXING

BOYS' TOURNAMENT. There was a fair attendance at the Greymouth Town Hall last evening when pupils of the Grey Main School Boxing Club and pupils of Mr D. Finlay’s school staged several bouts, under the auspices and in aid of the Greymouth Boxing Association’s funds. Several interesting bouts were witnessed. At the conclusion of the tournament occasion was taken by Mr F. Chapcott, to bid farewell to Mr A. McKenzie, the trainer of the Grey Main School boys v who was leaving the Loco Department, Greymouth, on transfer to the Railway Workshops at Addington. He said that Mfr McKenzie’s work was now beginning to make itself evident in the boys, and would be felt more so in the future. He also extended a welcome to Mr McKenzie’s successor, Mr J. .Porter of Nelson, as official Instructor. He was an experienced man and he felt sure that Mr Porter would, give the boys the same assistance as Mr McKenzie. Last evening’s bouts resulted as follows:— J. Porter defeated J. Finlay. R. Smith defeated J. Boddy. D. Stokes drew with E, Slokes. E. Davidson defeated P. Chapcott. S. Thompson defeated R. Morgan. J. Nelson drew with K. Morgan in an exhibition bout. H. Stanton defeated W. Meates. C. Mundy drew with R. Matheson. G. Gray defeated L. Brown on a technical knockout. R. S. Rothwell drew with A. Jackson. J. Porter defeated J. Nelson. R. Nelson defeated H. Stanton,.
