VISIT TO' FIJI
WELLINGTON, March 11
The New Zealand Rugby Council has approved of a visit to Fiji by a representative Maori team this year, leaving on July 12 and arriving back at Auckland on August 5. The team will play a match at Wanganui before leaving, and another at Auckland ion return, subject to acceptance by the unions concerned. Approval has been given for the playing of the Prince of Wales Cup match at Wairoa on July 26, the date of the unveiling of the Sir James Carroll Memorial, The Council has intimated that the playing of matches between tribes has the Council’s support. From information received from South Africa and Sydney and the New Zealand Rugby Council’s own attitude, as revealed to-day it is extremely unlikely that a Rugby conference will be held in South Africa this year, the concensus of opinion being that it'is far better to have the conference at London during the visit of the Australian team next year. AUSTRALIAN TOUR. WELLINGTON, March 11. The New Zealand Rugby Union’s amendments to the itinerary submitted from Australia for New Zealand’s rugby tour,' received the approval of the New Zealand Council to-day. The tour, as submitted by the N.S.W. Union, was regarded as somewhat heavy.
New Zealand’s proposal is that the team should leave Wellington by the Wanganella on July 7th., arrive in Sydney on July 11, and proceed by rail to Melbourne. They will play the first match there on July 16, and then eight other games to be arranged by the N.S.W. Union. The last match is to be on August 13th„ and the team is to leave Sydney by fhe Awatea on August, 15th.
