BUS RUNS DOWN BANK
FIVE CAR PASSENGERS HURT. IPer Press Association.. HAMILTON, March 8. A large motor bus returning from Huntly to Auckland last evening, with about 30 cricketers as passengers, collided with a car fc at a bend in the Great South Road, swerved down a 15ft. bank, and came to rest with its bonnet against the bank of a drain. A lucky escape from serious injury was experienced by the passengers and driver. Slight cuts were received by several of the passengers, but none needed medical attention. The car with which the bus collided was extensively damaged, and the driver, Mr M. A. Smillie, of Frankton, and four passengers all received minor injuries and suffered from severe shock. After being attended by a doctor they were able to go home. The cricketers were from Auckland, and after playing at Hunlty were returning to the city when the accident occurred at about nine o’clock. Considerable difficulty was experienced in hauling the bus back-'on to the road as the ground was soft and sloping steeply. The corner where the collision occurred is about- four and a half miles south of Mercer, and has been the scene of several accidents.
