McElwee, on Saturday, Mr. Harden, in consequence of his move to Seddonville, resigned the captaincy. All three speakers attributed the success the team had achieved in the field to Mr. Harden’s good leadership and to the fine spirit engendered amongst players, wished him success and further promotion in the service, and hoped he would carry on amongst others with whom he was associated the good work he had done in Westport. Accompanying the fine sentiments was a handsome Rolls razor, as a momenta of the regard of members of the Club. Mr. Harden suitably acknowledged the sentiments and the gift The death took place early Saturday

morning at the residence, 526 Russell Street, of Mr. James O’Donnell, aged 80 years. The late Mr. O’Donnell was a native of County Kerry, Ireland, and came to New Zealand 60 years ago. Deceased set off with Mr. Ball to swim the Mokihinui river and, it is surmised, that he was seized with cramp and sank. The matter was discussed at length and the Secretary, Mr. Wilcox, was instructed to convene a special meeting of the Union when a course of action to ensure an improved attendance would be placed before the rank and file. It was pointed out that many members took little interest in the affairs of the Union and apparently were quite satisfied to sit bacK and enjoy any benefits received by the Union as a result of the work of those who are awake to their sense of responsibility. The following were nominated as delegates to the Buller L.R.C.: Messrs J. Pupich, J. Wilcox, H. Stephen and T. Cranston. The Secretary reported that now that job delegates had been appointed in various parts of the district and it would be necessary to keep in touch with these delegates and forward them copies of correspondence from the Federation Head Office, a duplicator would be of immense value, and on his recommendation it was decided to purchase one. To expedite his work, it was also decided to adopt

la card filing system, by which means greater satisfaction would be rendered the members in connection with keeping a record of contributions, etc. A great deal of correspondence was dealt with and members present expressed satisfaction with the spirit prevailing and the amount of work accomplished. When last here, Nelson bowlers were given a wonderful time, not only in Westport, but- also on the other greens; m the Buller and if they got half as good a time on this tour, they wou d go away well satisfied.
