PIGS & STORES UP Mutton & Beef Cheaper fOur Own Correspondent], CHRISTCHURCH, February 9. At Addington market to-day the entry of fat lambs was a medium one, and the quality indifferent. Some good pens were yarded. There was a keen sale at better rates than the schedule. Best lambs fetched 32s Id. There was a large yarding of fat sheep. The quality was fair. Mostly ewes were forward. Ewes were back in price by Is 6d to 2s per head. Wethers were also down by Is to Is 6d per head. Although the rates were low, there was quite a keen sale. Butchers were operating for sorts suitable to their trade, and freezing companies took the balance. Best wethers fetched 34s Id, best ewes 24s 7d.

The store sheep formed a heavy penning, comprising 12,000 lambs, and 5,000 adult sheep, mostly ewes. There was a keen sale for wether lambs, firming on last week rates, until the concluding stages. Best wether lambs sold to 19s 2d, and others from 13s 6d to 16s. Ewe lambs were on a par with last week. A good line of 2-tooth ewes sold at 34s 3d; 210 4 and 5 year ewes sold at 255, others from. 16s to 18s. Wethers had a keen sale at late rates.

The fat cattle were also a large entry. The quality was good. The market was easier by 20s per head all round except for tops, which sold on a par with last week. There were quite a few passings as the sale progressed. Best beef sold to 37s per lOOlbs. Extra prime steers sold up to £l7 17s 6d; prime heavy steers £l3 15s to £l5 ss, prime medium weightsteers £l2 15s to £l3 15s, ordinary steers £9 10s to £l2 10s; light steers to £9 ss. Extra prime heifers fetched £l2 17s 6d, prime heifers £9 5s to £lO ss, medium heifers £7 10s to £9 Light heifers sold to £7. Extra prime cows fetched £l2 7s 6d, prime cows £7 to £9, medium cows £5 10s to £6 15s, light cows to £5 ss.

The store cattle were a mixed penning. There was a keen sale for all classes. Two-year-old Hereford Shorthorn cross steers were selling at £6 16s. There was a keen sale for potting bulls. There was a medium entry' of veal, and a good sale in all classes, especially suckers. x

The fat pigs were a medium entry, both in pork and bacon, and there was a good sale for both classes. Medium weight bacon was keenly sought for. Light pork sold from 34s 6d to 38s 6d, medium to heavy pork 40s 6d to 51s 6d, the price per lb. being 6d to 6id. Light baconers fetched 55s 6d to £3 6s 6d, medium baconers £3 8s 6d to £3 12s 6d; heavy baconers £3 14s 6d to £4 7s 6d, the pricz per lb. being s?d to 6Bd.
