TECHNICAL STUDENTS
RESUMPTION OF STUDIES. Almost constituting a record, there were approximately 150 new enrolments at the Greymouth Technical High School, which resumed yesterday morning, after the Summer vacation.; It is aptitipated that the total roll will be 325, as against 295 at the beginning of last year. So far as could be ascertained yesterday, 175 of last year’s pupils have returned, but there is a big drain away from the school, owing to the number of positions offering, but even after the levelling-out through this, it is believed that there will be fully thirty more pupils than last year. The Principal (Mr W. M. Stewart) stated yesterday that the enrolments were unusually large. They were heavy on the commercial side, and there was also a favourable increase in the number of engineering students. On the general side, the enrolments are a little less heavy. The only staff changes are that Miss J. Muir has replaced Miss M. A. Gardner (Home Science), Miss Muir, who holds a Diploma of Home Science (Otago University), formerly held a State appointment in South Canterbury. Mr R. J. K. Kania, who last year had leave of absence foi a tour of Europe, has again taken up his duties as science master, in place of Mr W. Wick, who relieved him.
