TAIHAPE, December 13. The death occurred suddenly of Daniel Bailey, aged 49, at 9.30 this morning, while he was driving the engine of a mixed train, Ohakune to Marton. The train was nine miles north of Taihape when Bailey collapsed and died. The fireman, D. R. Gordon, one of the youngest in the service, applied the emergency brake, and stopped the train. Another driver was sent from Taihape, the train arriving here half an hour late. WANGANUI, December 12. In a motor collision near Utiku on Saturday evening, Rose Ella Liddicoat, aged 35, married, of Mahgaweka, was killed. Another passenger in the car, Eileen Henderson, aged 38, married, of Mangaweka, was seriously injured. The driver of the car and two other occupants escaped injury.
