After over a thousand years, the historic mud wattle hut, built by Saint Dunstan, near Glastonbury Abbey, which is still inhabited, has been condemned by a sanitary inspector, and demolition is ordered, because of the dilapidation of the thatched roof. It was while inhabiting the hut that Saint Dunstan began rebuilding the Abbey, after damage by the Danes. The New Zealand boy, Murphy, who came to Britain with a tumour on the brain, has been operated upon, and is as well as can be expected. The Postmaster-General (Mr. G. C. Tryon), announces that a short-range telephone service with trawlers, coasters and other small craft off the East and West Coast, which are equipped for wireless telephony, is now available to subscribers in all parts of the United Kingdom. Owners of fishing fleets will thus be able to communicate with the captains of their trawlers at sea, after having acquainted themselves with the conditions of the markets around the coast, arid will be able to give instructions for the catches to be landed at ports where the best possible prices can be obtained. The normal range of service at sea is about 100 miles from the coast wireless stations. ■ The William Scoresby, will start on an Antarctic whale-marking voyage on September 16, returning in April. WASHINGTON, September 15. A sharp increase occurred in infantile paralysis cases, the total being 817 for the whole nation for the weekended September 11. The provincial total to date is 1568. NEW YORK, Seplember 15. A wireless message from Mr. Sopwith states that the Endeavour, while being towed to England, broke loose last night, approximately 200 miles east of Long Island, and is still missing. CHICAGO, September 15. A disgruntled client shot and killed ■the former Assistant Attorney-Gener-al, Elliott (Illinois), and stabbed in the abdomen another lawyer. He injured two stenographers, then surrendered to the police. . Elliott was preparing to summons the assailant in connection with a ten
thousand dollars damage suit, at the time of the killing. The assailant explained that he was dissatisfied with the manner in which the lawyers were managing his claims against property. He felt they had dissipated his 60,000 dollars fortune. RUGBY, September 15. The Aga Khan presided at a meetinf of the League of Nations Assembly this morning. The Iran Foreign Minister referred to the friendly arrangements his country had reached with neighbouring countries, and said that these gave proof that, despite setbacks and disillusions the principles of the Covenant remained the only ones on which efforts for world peace and prosperity could be based.
