[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, August 24. A large number of Westlanders will be travelling to Greymouth to see to-morrow’s football match between the Springboks and the combined West Coast-Buller team. Clark McConachy, the billiard champion, visits here on Thursday to give an exhibition, meeting Mr S. Stephens. Rimu Flat dredge obtained 377 ozs. 4 dwts. of gold last week. To spend a week on an educational tour of this and adjacent districts, a party of thirty children from the Timaru Main School, arrived in Hokitika last evening, in charge of Mr H. G. Brown, Assistant-Master, and five other adults. They are being billetted at the High School. They will pay visits to Lakes Kanieri and Mahinapua, Rimu Flat Dredge, the local sawmills and the Rewanui State Colliery. Mr Brown conducted a similar tour for children from Clarkville last year. The celebrations of the local State School Jubilee has now been arranged for January 22nd, 23rd, and 24th next, a meeting of the promoters being held last evening to re-commence the work of organisation which was given up through the infantile paralysis epidemic in the early part of the year. Miss Halliday, the secretary, reported there was a small credit balance. Much of the expense will have to be duplicated in notifying ex-scholars of the altered arrangements. It was decided to arrange for radio broadcasting of the dates. The committee will meet at 7 p.m., each Monday. A thanksgiving service was held by the Ministers’ Association on Sunday evening at the Regent Theatre, Revs. A. Carr, M. H. Feist and Captain Drummond leading the service, while the Methodist and Presbyterian choirs took part. There was a reproduction of sacred music. The collection, amounting to £4 10s 6d, with the previous one of £4 14s 2d, will meet charges for the theatre and part of the Association’s expenses for advertising and hymn sheets. A meeting of all interested in St. John Ambulance work will be held in the Methodist Hall on Saturday next at 8 p.m. The Rugby Sub-Union last evening decided to ask the West Coast Union to fix Saturday, August 28th, as the date for the Dittman Shield match between Westland and South Westland. J. Bennett was regraded as a junior. Fixtures for Saturday are:— Kokatahi V. Kiwi, Cass Square, 1.30 p.m.; Pirates v. Arahura, Hokitika, 1.30;' Ross v. Excelsior B, Ross, 2.45. Third grade, Pirates v. Excelsior, 1.30.
