Father Graham officiated. The bride wore a royal blue cosfume with hat and shoes to match and carried an ivory bound prayer book, the gift of Mrs. Victor Caldwell, who acted as Matron of Honour, and who was attired in an en* semble of black and green georgette with hat and shoes to match. County Matters: Cr. D. J. Archer, was in the chaii at the monthly meeting of the Buller County Council, held last evening. An application from Nelson Creek Sawmilling Company for assistance in improving the road to the mill was referred to the Land Board, who, it was stated, received all revenue from royalties. The sum of £5 was granted" to the Granity branch of the Plunket Society. A request from the Westland Local Bodies and General Workers’ Union that men engaged under Scheme 13 be paid award rates, was agreed to. It was also decided to deduct Union contributions from men’ wages. Mr. C. F. Turk, Karamea, was granted a slaughterhouse license. A bond of £l5O was decided upon in connection with the transport of a 14 ton boiler on the Westport-Karamea Main Highway. Referring to the scenic attractions on the Coast, Cr. J. H. Powell was of the opinion that the road on the south side of Fox’s River should, if continued, opened up some fine country. Cr. Dellevadova said few people realised the scenic beauty of the West Coast. In a recent issue of the National Geographic Magazine, he had seen little reference to the Buller Gorge and other places of interest on the Coast, whereas other places in New Zealand were extensively advertised. He was of the opinion a report should be sent by the Progress League to the National Magazine, pointing out the places of interest in the Buller district. It was agreed that the Clerk should confer with the Progress League on the matter. It was decided that the road to Bullock Creek be repaired. Several applications for works were dealt with. The Hector branch of the N.Z. Labour Party asked that the matter of preventing further erosion at Hector, which was becoming serious, should be gone into. It was decided that Cr. Mclntyre be asked to bring the complaint to the notice of Hon. P. C. Webb. The Engineer in Charge of the Public Works Department wrote regarding the delay in preparing arrangements with certain landholders in the Karamea district for the use of their land to facilitate the carrying out of the flood control works now under way, and stating that continued delay might possibly mean the works being stopped. It was stated that another settler was now claiming payment for spoil at the rate of £2O an acre, while others were still reluctant to’sign the agreement. Members of the Council commented strongly on the attitude of a few who were holding up a big job in the interests of hundreds of citizens who hoped to reap great benefits from the scheme. It was decideu that there had been sufficient delay and action is to be taken under the Public Works Act against the residents holding out. New Books:
