fOur Own Correspondent! On Wednesday evening in the Wallsend Hall the residents of the Brunner district tendered a farewell social to Mr. and Mrs. G. McCullough and family, who leave shortly for Tolaga Bay. The evening was spent in dancing, and items contributed by the folowing were much appreciated, Miss Watson being the accompaniste: * Misses Fentiman Bateman, B. Dando, Mrs. McCullough and Mr. W. Kerr and Master J. McCullough. Mr. T. Morgan (chairman of the school committee) said they had gathered that evening to say goodbye to Mr. McCullough who had been headmaster of the Taylorville School for nearly seven years, and they were very sorry to lose such a popular headmaster and citizen. He expressed appreciation of the pleasant relationship which had always existed between him and the committee. On behalf of the school committee he asked Mr. McCullough to accept an inscribed pen and pencil with the very best wishes for the future. On behalf of the Stillwater residents Mr. T. Smithers spoke of the good work of Mr. McCullough. He had so willingly given his services towards the Dental Clinic which is a credit to the district. Mr. McCullough having ben treasurer since its commencement six years ago. Mr. Smithers expressed regret at his departure and wished him and his wife and family prosperity in their new sphere. Mr. R. R. Smith eulogised Mr. McCullough’s many qualities and said that his place would be hard to fill, as he was the means of bringing the school up to the high standard of which it is to-day. On behalf of the citizens of Brunner he asked them to acept a silver tea service suitably inscribed, and hoped that it would serve to remind them of the many friends they were leaving behind them and wished them health wealth, prosperity and happiness in their new sphere. After the singing “For They are Jolly Good Fellows”. Mr. McCullough responded. He said that, now the time had come for their departure, they were sorry to leave the Coast, but his move was one of promotion, as it was a much larger school he was going to. On behalf, of his wife and family tie ttianked them once again for the valuable presents bestowed upon them and hoped that the co-opera-tion and goodwill given him be extended to the new headmaster and also stated that anyone visiting the East Coast from the Brunner district would be most welcome when they were settled in their new home. “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a pleasant evening. On Wednesdsay afternoon the children of the Taylorvile School made Mr. and Mrs. McCullough the recipients of a fireside tidy with all good wishes for the future. Mrs. J. Harper, Taylorville. left yesterday morning on a visit, to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. J. Dunn, of Dobson who have been on a visit to Christchurch returned this week. Mr. R. Leitch, of Christchurch, has been visiting his grandfather, Mr. Watson, Taylorville. Mrs. Higson and Miss Higson, of Dobson, left yesterday morning for Christchurch on holiday. Mrs. W. McGilchrist, of Dobson, left on Tuesday for Ashburton. Mrs. D. Ewan of Dobson, left for Christchurch by this morning’s express. Quite a number of Dobson and Taylorville school children left by yesterday morning’s express for the Winter Show under the guardianship of Miss Hogan, Dobson School Mistress. Miss Longson leaves on Friday night for Temuka for the school holidays. Miss James left yesterday for Lyttelton. Mrs., E. Rutherford left yesterday for Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. G. McCullough and Mr. McCullough senr leaves on Saturday by car for the North. 'The prize-winners of the whist drive held in Taylorville School on Monday night were:—Mr. P. Moore 1, Mrs. Dando 2, Mr. G. Nimmo 3.
