WRESTLING

IPer Press Association], DUNEDIN, August 8. “Strangler” Lewis took the wrestling decision here on Saturday night against Glen Wade by two falls to one. The first fall went to Lewis in the third round with a body press, but Wade squared accounts in the next round when he lifted Lewis in a crotch hold for a heavy dump and a body press finished him. The end came early in the sixth round when Lewis, by sheer bulk and strength, gained the deciding fall, a result that was not well received by'the spectators. McCready and Little Wolf INDIAN USES FISTIC METHODS. CHRISTCHURCH, August 9. The entry of the police into the ring' ended to-night’s bout, Earl McCready versus Chief Little Wolf. McCready won by two falls to one, taking both his falls as penalties against the Indian. Little Wolf persisted in elbow jolts, slaps, and punches on the face when the referee ordered him to break, and for this infringement penalties were given against him. The wrestlers appeared fairly evenly matched in strength, but the Indian was cunning, and he put his fearful deathlock several times on McCready by cleverly laid traps. It was with the deathlock that he gained his fall. Fighting was fierce in the sixth and seventh rounds, the bout ending in the seventh, when Little Wolf persisted in punishing McCready about the face when the referee ordered a break.
