Four thousand Japanese troops, with full war equipment, marched into Pekin, and occupied the main Chinese barracks in the Temple of Heaven, while thousands of Chinese lined the streets and impassively watched the column go by. The column was preceded by cavalry squadrons,' accofnpanied by fifteen tanks, ten heavy guns and eighty supply lorries. JAP. EMPEROR’S BROTHER. RETURNING HOME. TOKIO, August 8. Prince .and Princess Chichibu are cancelling the remainder of their European engagements, and are returning to Japan in view of the situation in China. HANKOW TOO HOT. FOR THE JAPANESE. HANKOW, August 8. The Japanese evacuated the concession,hauling down the flag and removing the defences. Chinese civil authorities took over the administration. CHINESE GENERAL’S STATEMENT. NANKING, August 8. The Chinese “Christian” General, Feng Yuhsiang, broadcasting, predicted victory. “If Japan mobilises twentyeight divisions, China is ready to momilise 450 million people. Unless the Japanese Imperialists unconditionally return the occupied territory, China will have no alternative but to embark on a life and death struggle.”
