NEMONA. The return from the Nemona dredge is 58 ozs., for 126 hours’ work, and 15,300 yards of -material treated. ALEXANDER. BLACKWATER. During July this mine crushed 3400 tons, yielding 1522 fine ozs. of gold from all sources, the value of which, taking gold at 139 s 6d per fine ounce, was £10,617. Working costs were £6962, leaving a working profit of £3655. * Capital expenditure was £lOBl and development £525. Development work carried out during July was as follows: —No. 13 Level, South Drive advanced 38 feet on reef averaging 165 dwts. in value and 30 inches in width. No. 12 Level Winze at 2950 ft., was sunk 21 feet holing through to the rise. The last 18 feet of progress was on reef averaging 24 inches in width, and 165 dwts. in value. No. 12 Level Winze at 1360 ft. advanced 20 feet, of which 145 feet was on reef averaging 42 inches in width, and 85 dwts. in value. North Shaft: Sinking was commenced during the month and advanced five feet.

PRODUCTION OF GOLD. WEST COAST INCREASE. During the quarter ended June 30, the production of gold on the West Coast showed an increase of 308 ozs. over the production for the first quarter of this year, the total being 16,484 ozs., as compared with 16,167 ozs. in the first three months. There was a falling-off in the total Dominion production in the same period,, however, the total being 40,617 ozs. as compared with 45,865 ozs. in the three months ended March 31st, 1937. The various district totals for the three months ended June 30th were: Province of Auckland, 17,536 ozs.; County of Buller, 507 0z5.; County of Grey, 3,701 ozs.; County of Inangahua, 5,584 ozs.; County of Westland, 6,692 ozs.; Marlborough and Nelson, 1,580 ozs.; Otago, 3,736 ozs.; Southland 1,090 ozs.; Other (not including gold contained in or obtained from old jewellery, etc.) 191 ozs. During the half-year ended June 30th, the total Dominion production was 86,482 ozs., of which the West Coast area contributed 32,660 ozs., or second only to the province of Auckland.
