FRENCH R.L. SIDE IN 1938. SYDNEY, July 27. Australian Rugby League Board of Control last night instructed the managers of the touring side. Messrs H. Sunderland and Bob Savage, to discuss the possibility of a tour by a, French team while they are overseas. The instruction should be sufficient for Sunderland and Savage to invite a French team. Sunderland wanted the Australian Board of Control to bring out a team from France several years ago. The board dallied and lost a great chance Now it is realised that the only way to keep the League code in favour is to arrange for a visit by an international side each year. Rugby League in France has come on apace in recent years, and games with English clubs have improved the French standard. Sunderland and Maurice Blaine, secretary of the French League, are old friends. They should not have the slightest difficulty in getting together. R. F. Anderton ventured the opinion last year while in Australia that Blaine was one of the keenest administrators in Rugby League. He was educated in England, and before returning to France was a keen follower of the Wigan club. If a French team comes, Blaine will be the manager. Marist seniors v. Ngahere: Pollock, Morel, O’Brien, Malone, Kiely, O’Connor, Casey, Grogan, Seguin, Calder, McQuinn, Affleck, Pearson.
