SHIPPING DELAYED

TASMAN STORMS. MELBOURNE, August 5. Arrived, Waitaki, from Bluff, several hours late, owing to strong gales and high seas along the southern coast, and in the Tasman. A heavy coastal storm caused many small craft bound for Melbourne to take shelter at the small islands in Bass Strait.

■“TEES” DAMAGED. CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. The steamer “Tees”, now at Lyttelton, is reported to have struck an object while passing through the straits between Owenga and Pitt Islands in the Chathams last week. The vessel was in the Straits at midnight, battling with heavy seas, when she ran into a wall of water, bumped heavily, and was carried on by a big following sea. When the vessel bumped she lurched and shipped much Water, causing a good deal of alarm among the 21 passengers. The "Tees” is to be docked at Lyttelton, for survey. It is understood a preliminary marine inquiry has already been held at Wellington. DESTROYER COLLIDES WITH STEAMER. LONDON, August 4. The Admiralty announces that the third destroyer Flotilla-leader “Faulknor”, en route to Spain, was involved in a collision with the “Clan MacFadyen,” .in a fog off Ushaut. The “Faulknor’s” damage forced her to return to Portsmouth. The “Clan MacFadyen” was slightly damaged, and continued to Hull. ‘ The “Faulknor” recently escaped undamaged from bombs dropped near her in the outer harbour of Bilbao.
