; 'l’he monthly meeting of the Kumara . Women's Institute was held in Trinity J Hall on April 21st. Mrs il’eever presill. ed over a good attendance. Two new members were welcomed. A demon. , stiation on dress cutting and fittingly Mrs Wilton, and a golden thread talk “Clothing for Health” by Mrs West were well received and proved helpful and enlightening. In a competition for best bloom, Mr s Fensom was first, Mrs Neame, senr. second; mid Miss Castle thii'd. In a handworked apron competition, Miss B. George was fust; Mrs West second and Mbs Castle third. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mesdames Birss and Fensom and Miss Castle. The delegates and members who attended the Council meeting in Greymouth reported a profitable and enjoyable time, and brought home renewed energy and ideas for the benefit of the Institute." The motto “Tbe More we Co-operate, the better we Can Operate,” proved ve-y appropriate. The programme for this year came in for high praise. The death of Mrs McVicar (neo Miss M. Reedy) at Johnsonville, recently, ■removed a former well-known former resident, of Hokitika and Dillmans, town.
Mrs Scott (nee Evans) is re-visiting Kumara and Dillmanstown after an absence of thirty years. She says it is difficult to visualise the old places ns they appeared before the advent of motor-cars.
The Kumara Medical Committee benefited to the extent of £4 Is from the dance held in the Memorial Hall, on Easter Monday night.
