RUNANGA NOTES

Air R. AfcTaggart presided at the annual meeting of the Runanga SubBranch of the Plunktt Society. The ninth annual report was adopted. The report recorded the success of the house-to-house collection and the garden party. Thanks were extended to the Women’s Institute for their donation. During the year the exterior of the building was painted; also the coal stove removed and sold, being replaced by an electric radiator. The membership this year shows a slight increase, a greater percentage of mothers becoming members. This is most gratifying to the committee. Thanks were extended to Nurse Robinson for her excellent services, which were greatly appeeiated by mothers and by the committee. In conclusion, the committee thanked Airs W. Southward for many services rendered, th e press, the auditor, Aliss Richmond members and all those who helped in any way.

The balance-sheet was as follows:— Receipts—Cash in hand £3 2s 3d. cash in bank £62 17s 3d, annual subscription £7, donations (Runanga IW.L, Mrs T. E. Kennedy, Mr T. E. Kennedy) £1 8s 6d, house-to-house collection £l5 13s 9d, garden party (Hildebrand) £3l 14s 3d, collection box 2s 7d, sale of 1 stove 10s, interest £1 5s sd; total, £95. 14s. Payments: fart 1935-36 quota £lB, yearly quota 1936-37 £35, stationery £l, electric lighting and repairs £1 9s 2d, ledgers 6s, polish, etc. (rooms) 3s 2d, radiator £2 ss, paint £4 Bs, sundries (garden party) 7s lOd, insurance 16s, cash in hand £3 16s 2d, cash in bank £2B 2s 8d; total £95 145. l Nurse Robinson’s report stated: The year has been a very satisfactory one.l The great majority of mothers have] been very regular in their attendance at the rooms—a fact which greatly as-] sists the nurse in her oversight of the babes. In general, the health of both 1 babes and older children has been! good, and all are thriving well. I would like to thank members of the committee for the obvious interest' they have shown in the work, and for| many courtesies extended to me on my visits. The election of officers for 1937-38 resulted: President, Mrs Timlin; vicepresidents, Mrs Rae; Mrs Oakley; hon. treasurer, Mrs Farquahar; hon. auditor, Miss Richmond; hon. secretary, Mrs Dale; committee, Mesdames Cooper, J. Armstrong, junr., Dickel, Duffy, Flood, N. Griffiths and Wilkes. The opening shoot of the Runanga Rifle Club was held on Tuesday, members of the Grey Men’s Chib, Brunner Defence Club and members of the Runanga Ladies’ and Men’s Club being present. An enjoyable evening was spent, and shooting was keen. Supper was provided.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr J. Smith (re-elected); secretary-treasurer, Ji. Mossop; club captain, G. Hildebrand; arms officers, J. Almond, John Smith; range officers, Jim Smith, RMurray, G. Hildebrand; official target checkers, K. McDonald, N. Howard, D. (Williams. D. McDonald; official markers, R. Almond, M. O’Connell, 11. Mossop, W. Glynn; auditor, R. Murray; assistant secretary, M. O’Connell. Committee: K. McDonald, D. IWilliams, John Smith, W. Glynn, J. Hatch, J. Almond, W. Kennedy, IT. Mossop, R. Murray. A. There, was a large attendance in the Runanga Library on Wednesday evening, to form a table tennis club. Lt' was decided to foim a club, to be called the Runanga Table Tennis Club Subscriptions were fixed ar, 2s 6d a member, to be paid within uiree weeks’ time. The chairman was instructed to inquire as to the cost of two tables, made of red pine T. and G. M.cPhee was elected club delegate till such time as the club was ieally established. The .president, before closing the, meeting, briefly thanked Mr McPhee for coming along to the mcetttig and endeavouring "o help them form a club and the advice that was necessary to make the club a success.

A large number of members o f the Women’s Presbyterian Union assembled at the Church Hall on Wednesday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr s E. 1 Muncaster, who is leaving the district ,to take up residence at Parnassus, North Canterbury, Mrs J. Southward, President of the Union, presenting the guest with an oak tray, regretted that Mis Muncaster was leaving the district, as she had given great service as see. rotary of the Union. However, it was imperative that she should join her husband, who find to leave the Coast for health reasons. The speaker trusted 'that their guest and her husband would enjoy good health and' prosperity. Mrs J. Aimstrong, senr.,. also eulogised the departing guest, and asked her t 0 accept, a beautiful hand, bag in recognition of her services. Mes. dames J. Erickson and J. Bell also paid a tribute to Mrs Muncaster. Mrs A. Wright and Mrs Shackley rendered vocal items, which were well receive.l. Afternoon tea wa s served and much appreciated. Auld Lang Syne terminated a very pleasant afternoon.
