17 WAIKATO CASES More in Auckland (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, April 22As a precautionary measure against paralysis, the Anzae Day eelebrjations at Hamilton have been cancelled. The. total of cases in hospital is seventeen, the latest admissions being a. girl of thirteen from To Poi, a positive cttse, and a Maori girl of five months from Matamata, and a girl of five years from near Taupiri, the latter paii| being suspected cases. AUCKLAND CASES. AUCKLAND, April 22. One of the- two eases admitted to the Auckland Hospital on Wednesday has been found to be positive infantile paralysis, the victims being a child from Devonport. The other patdent is an infant from Western Springs. His was. a negative case. There was admitted to hospital to-day a child from a settlement, north of Helensville, who was a positive case. AUCKLAND CHILDREN. DRASTIC ACTION NOT YET NECESSARY. AUCKLAND, April 22. The following telegram was received from the acßing-Prime- Minister, Hon. P. Fraser, by the Secretary of the Auckland' Hospital Board:— “I have considered the resolution of your Board that all of the schools in the Auckland district should be closed, and that children should be prohibited from attending picture theatres and other places of entertainment, as from to-morrow, Friday, in order to prevent the- spread of infantile paralysis. The Director-General of Health advises me that immediate action of this nature not warranted by the present circumstances. A close watch is being kept by the Department, however, and, if necessary, I shall not hesitate to take the action yon recommend.” THAMES CASE. THAMES. April 22. A positive ease of infantile paralysis has been admitted to the Thames Hospital from Waimata, near Waihi, and a suspected case, a Maori girl, has been admitted t 0 Tauranga Hospital. TAURANGA CASE. TAURANGA, April 22. A case of infantile paralysis was reported this morning ft.om a nearby Maori (Pa. that of a Maori girl, three and a-half years of age. OPOTIKI CASE. OPOTIKL April 22. Another case of infantile paralysis has occurred here, that of a ten.year. old white girl, from the coast. The schools in Opofiki are closing. AUCKLAND TOTAL. AUCKLAND, April 12. Since April 12. eight positive cases of infantile paralysis have been admitted to Auckland Hospital, and of these one died. Tie was a young man who camo from Kaukapakapa. In addition to seven postive cases now in hospital, there are four suspect patients under observation.
