Railway Service Mr J O’Brien, M.P., has received the following replies to representations made by him: — RAILWAY SERVICE. j£Ui r .With further reference to the representations made recently in re. gaud to the provision of a midday train on Saturdays for passengers who wish to travel from Greymouth to Stillwater and intermediate stations. I have pleasure in informing you that arrangements have been made for a passenger car to be attached to the goods .train which leaves Greymouth at 1130 a.m. This arrangement will operate on Saturdays during the months of April and May, after which period the position will be reviewed in the light of patronage received and a. decision arrived at as to whether the service is to become a permanent lone. —Yours sincerely, D. G. SULLIVAN. SOUTH WESTLAND MAIL. Sir,— Further to let ' ter of the 24t'h: October last, in reply to your representations that the frequency oi the air mail service between Hokitika, Bruce Bay, Haast and Okuru, be improved, I‘beg to inform you that when tenders were recently being dealt with the question of providing twiceweekly service was fully considered. My Department is, however, committed to a substantial increase in. sub. sidy to continue the existing weekly service and, as the contractors do not make regular flights more frequently, and having regard to the loss already sustained by my Department, in operating this service, t'he additional cost of providing the desired frequency is deemed not to be warranted. In tne circumstances, it is regretted that a regular second weekly trip cannot b provided, but, with a view t 0 meeting the washes of the settlers as far as possible, arrangements will be made for mails to be despatched on such occasions as the aeroplanes are making flights supplementary to the regular once-weekly service—Yours sin. Cerely ' F. JONES.
