NON-UNION WHARFIES
Refuse Work GISBORNE, October 21. The handling of cargo at Gisborne was delayed, yesterday, and to-day, through non-union labour refusing to accept, employment. Trouble Las arisen through the Watersiders’ Union enforcing the clause which enables non-unionists to be displaced by unionists, after two hours’ work, the previous relaxation clause having enabled non-union labour to work for the full day, without displacement. Non-members of the union contend it is unfair that they should be compelled to surrender their jobs, after only two hours’ work, but the union maintain that its members are entitled to the full benefits of the preference clause. WANGANUI. October 21. Delay was caused, this morning, in connection with tho unloading of the “Holmdale,” owing to the recent decision where non-unionist WorWrs can be displaced by unionists 'after having put in a minimum of two hours. Non-unionists this morning refused to accept work on the “Holnidale” under those conditions, and owing to the working of other vessels, very few unionists were available, when the call was made.
