(Our Own Correspondent). It is quite likely that the Government will take full control of road transport, both passenger and freight, in South Westland. A start will be made at an early dale with the erection of a large garage and bungalow for the manager. Mrs G. Ellcy has arrived from Westport with her two children to take up her residence here. Miss ('. Finnerty of Westport, paid a brief visit here last week. Miss O. Adamson, of Murchison, who has been ou a visit here, has returned home. The late Jack Stubbs, who was found dead in Westport last week, was a well known figure in these parts about 12 months ago. The death took place at the Westland Hospital on Saturday last of another of the fast-diminishing band of early pioneers of South Westland, in the person of Mrs M. Mulvaney. The deceased was about 75 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband niauv vears ago. She leaves a family lof four daughters, Mesdames Muir (Ross), Haddock (Herepo), Walsh (Wataroa) and Kidd (Harihari), and three sons, John (Mahitahi), James and Patrick (Wataroa). The funeral took place at Ross on Monday afternoon last, leaving Mr Nolan’s City Hotel for the Ross Cemetery. A large number of mourners attended. The services at the church and graveside were performed by Rev. Father Quinn, of Wataroa, assisted by Rev. Father Browne, of Ross.

The plain and fancy dress ball in aid of the Blanket Society will be held here to-morrow night. Wataroa school was well represented here on Saturday. The girls played basketball with the local schoolgirls, and Ihe boys played the local boys at Rugby football. Both games were won by the local teams. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies.
