SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS

There is a marked contrast in the conditions during the slump period, when many teachers wer’o. out of work, and to-day’s apparent shortage in this profession, since the Wellington Board is unable to send a relieving teacher to the Makomako Schoo’, where, n'neteen children are at present without a teacher. The Wel'fngton Board was communicated with. an (1 it informed the committee that no teachers were available. Parents in the. district are ’nd'gnant at the altitude of the board and consider a temporary appointment of a Train’ng College student diould be made, pending a suitable arrangement during the most important period of the vear. When a shortage of teachers nt Arn.komako Schoo' was referred to the Wellington Educatiion Board, if was stated that everything possible had been done! to find a teacher, but a' the present time there was an acute shortage (ow'ng to the influx of the five-year-olds). It was also pointed out that students could not be sent out. Airs E'is’ng had volunteered to carry on until the end of the year. Next year more teachers would Re nvaiilahl'C. Some Education Board’ were even worse off than AVeßington in respect of a shortage of teachers.
