Higher temperatures prevailing yesterday, caused considerable melting of snow in the back country, and in consequence, the Grey and Taramakau Rivers were in moderate flood. Whitebait catches still remain much below the expected, and unless a very heavy run commences shortly, the season is likely to be a very lean one for fishermen.

Both cars were damaged when a collision occurred oarly on Tuesday evening, on a small bridge two miles on the Greymouth side of Mawheraiti, between cars driven by Mr V. ,L Nash, of Greymouth, and Air Lew's of Waiultt. One passenger, in Air Lewis’s car was struck above the eye by flying glass, but the other occupants of the cars were uninured.

The dredge “Alawhern” is at present engaged in dredging lhe berthages at the Greymouth whrrf, which were slightly shoaled up bz the recent flood The shoaling was not as great as expected and in sone cases scouring occurred.
