SHOWER OF METEORS

OVER NEWFOUNDLAND Seen Blazing at Mid-day (Aus & N.Z. Cable Assn.) SAINT JOHNS (Newfoundland), October 19. There were reports that aeroplanes, on lire, were falling into Fortuno and Trinity Bays this afternoon. An investigation of the reports has disclosed that there was a shower of meteors over the island of Newfoundland during (he day. The illuminations from lhe falling meteors were so brilliant that, even at mid-day the people rushed to their windows in a panic. One small settlement believed that the end of the world had come, and the inhabitants there became gravely ala rmed. One huge ball of lire, with a trail of white smoke, fell in Fortune Bay, setting lire to a fisherman’s boat.
