N.S.W. LAUNCH TRAGEDY

TWELVE DROWNED Swamped in River (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received October 19 at 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 19. Twelve persons were, drowned on Sunday afternoon, when a fierce wind squall capsized a launch on the Hawkesbury River. There was a party of fourteen people- in the boat, which was overturned by a huge wave. At dawn to-day, two persons were found in the river clinging to a lock. They were in a semi-conscious condition. This was the first indication of the tragedy. A subsequent search resulted in the dead bodies of five persons being found. There are seven still missing. NAMES OF THE VICTIMS. A VERY SUDDEN CAPSIZE. (Received October 19 at 8.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 19. The victims of the Hawkesbury River tragedy were returning from a week-end party at Patonga. The survivors are Norman Jones and Wolfe Kalenstein. They were rescued when clinging weakly to the rocks. Their strength was exhausted when they were rescued. An Italian fisherman was 'the rescuer. I Jones said the launch wont over so quickly that, it seemed as if a giant had picked it up and capsized it. Kalenstein has lost in the tragedy his wife, a child, his sister and his brother. - • The victims whose bodies have been recovered were:— Airs Clarkc"Kalenstein. Aliss Rachel Kalenstein. Aliss Sally Klarnett. Airs Rachel Penn. A girl, believed to be Miss Thelma Soloman. The missing arc:— Clifton Jones Cecil Penn, the husband of Airs Rachel Penn. Henry Kalenstein. Jack Kalenstein (an infant). Airs. Neilson. Hector Isenberg David Isenberg. ANOTHER BODY FOUND. SYDNEY, October 19. Aliss Sally Klarnett and Henry Kalenstein were engaged to be married. The body of Clifton Jones, the owner of the launch, has been recovered. He was an uncle of the survivor, Norman Jones.
