NEAR 500 CASUALTIES Police Fire on Mobs Six Times (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) BOAIBAYQ October 16. A riot commenced at dawn throughout the city. The jioliee fired four times in two hours. There were many additional casualties and a hundred arrests. BOMBAY’, October 16, Hooliganism is spreading- despite the prohibition of carrying arms. Alobs are looting and attempting to set fi' e to other mosques and temples. The police fired again this afternoon. Tranis are stopped and shops in the affected areas are closed.

It was accompanied by the looting of shops and the setting on fire of Hindu temples. The police fired on a crowd of Hindus who were attempting to burn a Mohammendan mosque. The police have altogether been forced to open fire six times as the result of the riot disturbances. The casualties now total thirty-eight killed and 360 injured. CASUALTIES INCREASE. A Moslem policeman, single-handed heroicafy defied a mob of three hundred who were threatening to burn a Hindu famii’y of five women and. four children and an aged man, until reinforcements arrived.
