(Ou f Own Correspou’eiit.;. In anticipation of the electric light and power coming into the town, radio dealers are already iuvading the towu for prospective orders. The annual meetiug of the Kumara Tennis Club was held on Thursday evening, when there was a fair alraudance. Mr AleGettigan was voted, to the chair, and explained that there was much lu be done by way of improv'.ng Hie c-oiiit. and as the financial [ios.lion was only fair, it was up to all members to work together and make a real live club. Air Alan A’Court, who, for a few years past, has acted as Secretary, resigned that position, as his work took him out of the town. M r AlcGettigiin was re-elected President, and MisSes J. Steel and L. AlcNabb Joiul-'secretaries. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the executive officers for past services and the retiring secretary’s services were apprccitried. The work of top-dressing- the court is in progress, while repairs and improvements will be effected as funds are available. A strong social coinm'.ttee was formed of ladies and gentle men, who will push on the progress ol the elub. Owing to the work on the court beiug carried out, the opening date is delayed until after the next meeting. The usual meeting of the Oddfellows’ Lodge was held on Wednesday even rag. The N.G.. Bro. S. Harris, presided, and took the opportunity ol ex tcnd'.ng a, cordial welcome to District Grund Alaster, Bro. Anderson, of Nelson, and also brcllieiii of the Luy-ai Greymoulh Lodge. Bro. Anderson gave a very interesting address on his experieuces. The Commit tee reported a small profit from the recent ball. Two new candidates were proposed for membership. Several members expressed pleasure that the annual conference for 1937 would be held in Kuuiara, as it is about 35 years since the last Oddfellows’ Coiiferencc was held here.

Mr J. McFarlane presided over a meeting of the Kumara Sports Club. Ar.sing out of the minutes of the pievious meeting, which were read and confirmed, there were several suggestions to promote the welfare of axemen’s and athletic sports on the CoastMr John Reedy was re-elected delegate to attend the meeting of the West Coast Centre (to-day. Saturday). One important matter he has been a s ked to further, is the mutual co-operation of West Coast Sports Bodies, in the hope of holding the meetings on dates dose together, about Easter, w.th the hope of attracting competitors from other parts of New Zealand, who may contemplate a visit if there were several sports meetings to do. , The local branch of the U.S.A.. win hold their annual re-union on Friday, 23rd October. This function has always been u pleasant one, and many old comrades from all parts of the West Coast come togetner. The Exceutixe are determined to make this year’s function the best yet. The Bachelors’ Ball, to be held on 13th November, is causing some st»' among the lovers of the light fantastic.
