(Per Press Association). AUCKLAND. October 15. After returning to his boardinghouse, in Vincent Street early last evening, John Waldron Tong. 31. Thames, son of -Mr George Tong. retary to the ThamC'S Hospital Board, fell down the stairs, and was fatally iuju red. A doctor who was ca'led found death had occurred, the skull having been fractured. DUNEDIN. October 15.

Mrs Martha Dorothea Menzies, aged 54, widow of Mr William Menzies, on Tnw.da.v from., a -gunshot wound she received when climbing

through a fence with a shotgun at Menzies Bay. An inquest was held yesterday before. -Mr !•'. R. E. Davis, acting-Coroner. and a verdict ot accidental death returned. Mrs -Menzies lived at St. Elmo Courts. She was visiting her son. Mill. Menzies, according to her cus'li at the time of the accident, and went down to a cottage on the property on Monday. It- was her habit to take a shotgun with her to frighten away the birds .from the garden. She was discovered on Tuesday mornbig by two children, with a serious gunshot wound. When Dr. L. B. Burnett, of Littlei River, and the police arrived, she was able to tell how the accident had happened. Dr. Burnett was. with her for two hours before she died.
