FISHING DISPUTE
Extends at Auckland A CONCILIATION EFFORT AUCKLAND. October 15. An extension of the fishing dispute beyond those who are immediately affected was revealed when a number of engineers and painters declined to assist in repairs to one, of the boats that are idle. An effort to reach a settlement is now being made by the Government, which has empowered the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr R. E. Price, to preside at an early conference of the parties, at which a Government officer will also be present. The fishermen are avoiding any forceful tactics, but they are prepared to take measures to prevent any of the boats obtaining fish at sea.
Fish supplies in the, city are being maintained by the trawlers. There is no immediate likelihood of an acute shortage.
