(Our Own Correspondent.) Athletics and Cycling: WESTPORT, October 14. At the annual meeting of the Westport Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club held last evening the attendant was large. The, annual report and balance sheet were adopted as satisfactory. Trophies were presented as follows.—Petley Cup (cycling), D. Johnson; Cup (running), A. Jost. The medal for lap points scored in cycling events was presented to R. Harder, and the Ferneaux Cup to D. Hardie. The election of officers for the season resulted as follows: — Patron: W. T. Slee, Esq. President: Mr A. Pain. /ice-presidents: Messrs R. Crawford, E. T. Broker, S. A. Wingate, J. Kilkenny and J. Caldwell. Hon Secretary and treasurer: Mr D. Hardie. Assistant secretary: Mr W. It was decided to hold the first evening meeting on Friday, October 23, a-. 6.30 p.m. Obituary: The death took place last evening after a short illness of Air John Freeman a well-known figure on the local waterfront for the past forty years, where has was engaged in various capacities. He effected many rescues from drowning and holds the Royal Humane Society's certificate of merit. He is survived by his widow and two daughters Mesdames Armit (Remuera, Auckland) and Turney (Seatoun. Wellington). An old and highly esteemed resident of Westport, in the person of . Mrs Helen Lock, passed away in the O'Conor Home at midnight last night. Card Party: At the Labour Party’s card tournament held hist evening the attendance was well up to the customary large proportions and a most enjoyable time was spent by all. The ladies’ committee provided a much appreciated supper. Aliss Steele won the euchre prize with Air Dobson and Mrs Ryan in second and third positions respectivelv. .Mr Dobson won tho forty-fives award. A Presentation:

Miss Grace Lockington, whose marriage to Mr P. Ryan takes place tomorrow was met last evening by the members of the Ramblers Hockey Club and was made the recipient of a token of esteem by Mrs J. Bowden, president, who referred to her many excellent qualities, both on and off the field. She wished her every happiness in her married sphere. The gathering sang "For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow" and Miss Lockington suitably replied. Croquet: Mis G. Aitken presided over a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Rangimarie Croquet Club held last evening. - The election of officers tor tue ensuing year resulted as follows: — President: Mrs G.
