“A NIGHT AT THE OPERA.” Sparkling' comedy and glorious operatic arias vie for plaudits in the latest Marx Bros, picture, “A Night at the Opera,” which is to have to-r/glit a reci.ru and final screening at the Opera House. The Merry Madcaps of M-G.M. have a story with a plot. This involves the humorous efforts j f Groucho. Emine;’ 0 Connor, support the stars. “MISS PAOIFI.t FLEET.” Joan Blondell and Glenda Farrell again as gal gold diggers, will come to the Opera House on Friday iu the new Warner Bros, production, “Miss Paci|fic Fleet.” Playing with them are those two inimitable comedians, Hugh Herbert, and Allen Jenkins, w:‘h Warner Hull, the famous radio singer, in the romantic, role. The picture is a gay and rollicking comedy ami carries a, glamorous romance. The fun starts in an amusement park at a naval base on the Pacific Coast, where Joan and Glenda, two stranded chorus beauties, arc running a cane rack. The fleet comes in, and Allen Jenkins in the role of ehampion prize lighter of the fleet, puts them ch»:ir out of business by his skill in ringing canes. Hugh Herbert, as a wily promoter, suggests a beauty contest. Jenkins agrees to fighf the local pug in order to win the 5,000 votes offered as a. prize to give to Joan. Hilarious situations follow, winding up in a melodramatic smasn, in which 'there is a kidnapping, a motor boat chase for the abducted girl, and ;t. free-for-all battle between sailors, marines and their girls. Others in the east, include Eddie Acttff, Marie Wilson, Guinn Williams and Anita Kerry, besides hundreds of extras in the roles of sailors and marines. OUR GANG COMPETITION. A new competition for Gang members is now in full swing. Members are to see how many words they can make out of the letters in “ Our Gang Matinees”. Words are to be written one one side of the paper only; and handed in bn Saturday next at the Gang Matinee, at 30 a.m. Prizes will be given to the three members who have the greatest numbers of words.
