CONTRACT IN SIGHT Australia’s Concessions (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received October 14. 11.40' p.m.) CANBERRA, October 14. The “Sun” representative here says that an agHeenumt has been reached on all of the major issues as to an Englund-Austra’ia llyng-boat air mail service, and the contract is new being prepared for ratification by tho British ami Commonwealth Governments. There 'is an .important concession to Australia. It is that Britain has accepted a proposal for the retention of a surcharge of sixpence >.m all outward mails from Australia. The surcharge will decrease to the ordinary company rale- <is the volume of ma.l in crises. Austral'a will have full centre,! ot the Sydney-Singapore section of lhe Empire route. It is believed that New Zealand participation in the Empire service, is npw certain, and that the details of Australia’s share in the trans-Tasman link are now being worked out by the authorities here and in the Dominion.
