THE WEATHER
(Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 13. General situation: A shallow depression is approaching southern New Zealand, while an extensive anticyclone covers Australia, and the western and northern portions of the Tas-' x man Sea. Forecast: Winds, westerly to southwesterly prevailing; later becoming more generally southerly; force light to moderate mainly, but strong at times in exposed positions. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough on the west coast of the North Island and in Foveaux Strait; elsewhere, slight to,) moderate, but later rising somewhat south of Castlcpoint. Eastern Tasman Sea: Westerly winds, backing to southerlies; moderate in the northern portion, with slight to moderate seas; fresh to strong in the southern portion, with rather rough, seas. Weather for the most part fair to, fine, but occasional showers are probable, more especially in the districts with a westerly aspect and in the southern portion of the South Island. Temperatures cold, with some inland frosts.
