KUMARA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.} Despite the inclement weather, there was a good attendance at the concert on Saturday night, under the auspices of the Women’s Institute. Many pleasing vocal items were given, arid' an interesting talk by the Lady in Red was much enjoyed. , A full at tendance of the medical committee. was called for Friday evening, last, when the Ohairyi'in, Air J. Murphy, stated that D'r Rosa Collier had declined to take up the position as Resident Doctor here. Apparently the Health Department had approved of the doctor going to a place in the North Island at the same time as approval hud been given for the local position Mr H. Hamer stilted that, as soon as the position had been declined, he had written to Air O’Brien, ALP., asking that gentleman to take up the Kumara difficulty with the Health Department, and asking his reply and advice as early as possible. Mr Lakin said he favoured another appeal to the Hospital Board to advertise for a doctor. Air C. E, Evenden supported. Air George did not approve of the suggestion to refund contributions to subscribers until the Board had again been approached. Modanies |l’assmore and Good favoured another appeal to the Board through the Board member, Air ,W. IL Evenden. This was finally agreed to. Air Lakin stated that, if the Board again advertised for the position, the advertisement should be made clearer ns he understood that doctors considered £3OO the full amount. It should be clearly stilled that the £3OO was an annual grant to a doctor In live here, and that, private practice, lodges, etc., were extra. Air Murphy said he felt that Air Evenden could be relied upon to tiring the matter before the Board at its next meeting.
