Alsace Campaign MEETS STRONG OPPOSITION. STRASBURG, October 9. Another threatened political crisis has been averted. It was averted owing to the Communists, after the intervention of M. Blum, Prime Minister, reducing their proposed 127 week-end meetings in Alsace-Lorraine to ten meetings. The announcement of these 127 meetings caused the greatest indignation. Posters were up everywhere, which declared that Alsaee would not tolerate the Communist provocation, which was organised by M.osc-ow. The posters stated that if the authorities did not assure order, the people would assure it. "COMMUNIST SUNDAY" ALSATIAN TENSION. STRASBOURG, October 11. Tension has increased on the eve of the "Communist Sunday’’ when ten Communist meetings are expected to produce disorders, owing to the Rightists’ opposition. Some are declaring it would be better to belong to Nazi Germany than to a red France. 'Some 5600 mobile guards have been hurried to Alsace. Troops here are already guarding the public buildings. French Social Party ARREST OF LEADERS. (Received October 11 at 7 p.m.) PARIS, October 11. Colonel De La Roque and five other leaders of the Social Party, including the trans-Atlantic airman, Jean Me--moz, were charged here with inciting a mob to assemble, and with reconstituting the Crois De Feu, after its legal dissolution. They were remanded.
