BY GOLD ROD AND CUDDLE. SILVER STREAK A FAILURE. (Received Sept. 22 at 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 22. Tn an impressive Derby trial to-day Gold Rod galloped alone over 1-1 miles. He was ridden by McCarten. He went easily over the first five furlongs. Then he took 1.311 for the remaining seven furlongs. He did the last four in 50

secs, and the last three in 371. Cuddle, also ridden bv McCarten, registered the excellent time of 1.16 foi six furlongs, doing the last three in Mr. Montgomery, the owner of Silver Jubillee, was present tit Victoria. Park to see him gallop a brilliant four furlongs in 49’secs. The “Sun” says that there is little chance of Silver Streak meeting its Randwick engagements. It pulled up lame to-day. It has been scratched from all its Melbourne events, and will probably return to New Zealand on October 9.
