COBDEN CLUB’S MEETING At the animal meeting of the Cobden Cricket Club, Air. .Stokes presided over a. fair attendance of members. The balance sheet showing a substantial credit baltinve, was adopted as satisfactory. The president in his annual report stated; “The past season was not as successful as in previous years, and this teniporary relapse was due, .J think, in some measure to the loss of Club stalwarts al the end of the 1935-36 season. On the other hand the C’luli has enrolled more younger memLeis Ilian tor some years past and thus we have the founila I ions upon which depends the fut.ure success of yutlf Club. Al lliis point I would like lo i-oiii men I on the fact that this faetor alone will not. ensure success, but that it will be only brought about by the co-operation of all members in the running of the Club. In the season just past we have had .some glaring eases of members forgetting their responsibilities in this direction, and the old story of the work being left to a few willing helpers. May I appeal to all who are associated with the Club to offer their assistance, which will, 1 assure you. be very much appreciated. Our success on the field was limited to our “A” team in the Wingham Shield Final, and I take this oppor tunity of extending ( .<>ngraful.itions on their success. I would like to congratulate those members who gained representative honours during the season The financial position of the Club can be regarded' as most satisfactory. The outgoing committee desire me to record our grateful thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Barlow for untiring efforts on our behalf. The delegates were instructed to support both Saturday and Sunday senior competitions. The nomination, of teams was left until after the opening days, but it is expected that the Club will field otic Saturday team, and probably two Snndtiv teams.
The opening days were fixed for Saturday. October 3, and Sunday, October 4.
A’otes of thanks were passed to the retiring Secretary, Air. A. L. East who is leaving the district and Air. G. Knapp .for their work in the interests of the Club CHRISTCHURCH, September 21. There seems to be little hope that the tour by an Indian cricket side this summer will be made. Difficulties have arisen in India, and the New Zealand' Cricket Council has been advised that it is practically certain the fixture will have to be cancelled.
