AUCKLAND, September 20. Alarmed by the prospect of the taking of his property as n site for the new central fire stat’on, Mr J. Partington, the owner of the old windmill in Symonds Street, one of Auckland’s besf-known landmarks, has authorised his solicitor to announce that provision has been made in his will for bequest ng the mill and the surrounding propert'es, valued at about £lOO.OOO, to the city of Auckland, on his death. The Partington family has owned rhe mill since its erection in the early days of the city, and Air Partington still operates the plant, and lives in a house alongside. Mr Partington decided to make public the fact that he was bequesting rhe mill to the city only because of the recent suggestions that the site might he taken for a fire station. WELLINGTON, September 21.

Through putting a shotgun cartridge on the fire, P. Truelove, a schoolboy of Seatoun Road, had the first and third fingers of the right hand blown off, when the charge exploded. He also received cuts about the hand and face, and suffered from shock. He was taken to the hospital. INVERCARGILL, September 21.

Early on Sunday morning, a ear driven by Lancelot William Donaldson, employee at Burwood station, failed to negotiate a corner on the road from Mossburn to the Public Works camp at Mount Hamilton, and crashed over a 25-foot bank into the river.

The driver escaped unhurt, but three passengers were injured. Charles

Webb, of Invercargill, received severe head injuries and a broken right leg. Edward William Bedwell, head injuries. Ralphe Cole Scott, head injuries and fractured ribs. The victims were brought by ambulance to the Southland hospital. Their condition is reported as satisfactory.
