Manslaughter Charge PALMERSTON SOUTH TRAGEDY. DUNEDIN, September 21. At. the Police Cjourt this morning before Mr Bundle, S.M., Richard Cor rigan, 49, a miner, appeared on a charge of mans’aughter, the charge being in respect of the death of . an elderly man,. George Stuart Neish. who died on. August 26, at Palmerston, as the result iof a. severe blow on the top of the head. Accused and another man visited deceased on the night of the tragedy, when, it was alleged, they a 1! consumed liquor. Neish and Corrigan went outside, the lattir returning alone. Neish war ijOiinfi un conscious near accused’s ear. Evidence was given by Dr. Dath. pathologist. Dunedin Tlospita'i who was of opinion tlmt dentil was due to extensive subdural haemorrhage, as a result of a severe blow on top of the head. Accused was remanded to appear at Palmerston on Tuesday, September 29. GISBORNE, September 21. Frederick Linslev, 47, singe, admitted before Mr Walton. S.M., this morning, to having defrauded the Em ploymcnt Department of £l7O, by falsely representing that he was married, with four children. The pci’iee stated that accused repeatedly declared he was married, first, stating that he had three ch 1dren. then increasing his family by another child. Tn addition to relief funds, he had been drawing a soldier’s pension of 10s per week. Accused stated that, he had made the statements because a single man could not get a fair hearing. TTo was fined £2,. with costs, or each of two charges.
