Hughes substituted for Neville .Mudgeway (Waihi) who was unable to take the ring on account o’, illness.

The second professional contest was a light-heavyweight one between Marine Ryan H..M.S. Dunedin (list 121 b) and Frank Prendergast, Invercargill (12st 41b). Ryan won on points after a fairly fast, but rather ragged exhibit ion.
