(Our Own Correspondent.; The Loyal Albert Lodge of Oddfellows held their half-yearly meeting on Wednesday evening, when there was a good attendance of members and visitors. The N.G., Bro'. E. Rooney, presided, while the usual routine business was transacted. He extended a cordial welcome to Deputy-Grand Master Bro. AlcLusky on tihe occasion of his official visit, and also to visiting brethren from the Grey Lod<re. The- D.D.G.M., with Bro. J. Allen, G.M. of the Grey Lodge, conducted the installation ceremony, when the following officers -were* installed:— G.M., Bro. E. Rooney; N.G., Bro. S. Harris; V.G., Bro. C. Warren; Warden, Bro. T. Wills; E.S., Bro. AV. Steel; 1.G., Bro. R. Morgan. Afterwards, an adjournment was made to the Memorial Hall, where a smoke concer;. was he.ld. Bro. S. Harris, N.G., presided. Several toasts were honoured and a pleasant evening was spent tn music, song, and story. AVith regard to the need of a doctor here, the following communications have, been reedived by the hou. secretary of the Kumara Medical Committee (Mr 11. Hamer): —Mr O'Brien. M.P., writes: “Re your’s of the 3rd inst., I am taking up the matter with the Minister of Health once again for a medical officer at Kumara. Your letter makes it perfectly clear that Kumara district should not be without an expert medical man, and the only way the Minister can give effect to your request would bo to increase the subsidy, or. in other words, to restore the subsidy on voluntary contributions and bequests to Hospital Boards. If that were done, it would case the situation as far as Kumara and AVataroa are concerned.” The Hon. AL J. Savage (Prime Minister) writes: “I am i! n receipt, of your letter of the 3rd inst., in reference to the difficulty you Tire experiencing in obtaining a medical practiltioncr to take up residence ami practice in Kuniara. I note all you say on, the subject, and shall be glad to bring your representations under the no:ice of the lion, the Min’slter of Health. A furthen reply will be sent you in due course. r ’
