British Contest JIM FERRIER IN SCOTLAND LONDON, April ,26. With a, score of 280, Paugnam won the S.lvur King, tournament carrying a purse of £.200 which, following hi = MoOO as winner of the Daily Mail tournament makes his total prize money £lOOO in six months. He has now won the last three major tournaments in Britain. Padghaui, yesterday, was the hero of one of the most dramatic finishes on record. He emulated Duncan’s historic championship performance picking up thirteen shots on the leader in one day’s play. Padghani was told he needed to do the last three holes in eleven strokes to defeat Cotton, who had just returned a card of 281 Padgham did not falter, although the result was in doubt until he. holed the last putt on the last green. Lacey who was 133 for he first thirty-six —six ahead —'failed tragically on the last day. Playing at Carnoustie for the Alidlauds of Scotland against the West, J.ui Ferrier (N.S.W.). encountered the single Alelbournc Centenary champion, Jack AlcLean, on the eve of their possible meeting in the Scottish championship, of which Ale Lean had three times been winner. Ferrier secured an immediate lead with a birdie three. He was hunkered at the fourth and fifth but made great recoveries, and halved both. Following a tremendous drive at the sixth, the longest hole, 521 yards, Ferrier won with a birdie four to become two up. It was now bitterly cold the rain han'dicaping Ferrier , whose long drive at the seventh was out of bounds and he lost the hole, but he turned one up. AlcLean squared at the eleventh and led for the first time at the fourteenth, clinching a victory 2/1 at the long and difficult seventeenth where Ferrier was first in a bunker and then in a river. Ferrier in the foursomes partnered J- R. 'Brodlie, ex-Scottish University champion, against the Glasgow players McCallum and Peters. A bitter gale was blowing during the play, but Ferrier was more impressive than in the singles, hitting many fine shots. Brodlie sank long putts. The pair finally were victorious 5 and 1Ferrier says he is quite pleased w’th his form, and hopes to do creditably in the championship. LONDON April 28.
