WELLINGTON SENTENCES. (Per Press Association;. WELLINGTON, October 17. Prisoners were sentenced by Mr. Justice Reed, as follow;— On a charge of abducting a girl under the ag e of 16, and two charges of unlawful carnal knowledge David Nathan 37, a Maori, four years hard labour. The J udge said that the girl concerned in the case was undoubtedly of an extremely loose character. Arthur Gray, 23, another Maori, «n--peiared for sentence for unlawful carnal knowledge in respect to the Bam e girl. The Judge said thlat the girl was a menace to Maori s in the Raetihi district. Prisoner had apparently borne a good character before the commission of the ofEenc e and, from what the Judge could understand, he was practically seduced by the girl. Under the circumstances he did not propose to send him to prison, but would convict and order him to come up for sentence if called upon wi.thin two years. Riini Kerekura, who appeared sim ilarly, was sentenced to twelve months’ hard labour. The Judge said that the distinction between Kerekura and Grey’s ciase was that the former had been in prison before, and had already had the taint of imprisonment. ’ ! k ’l Leonard Norman Crlawford, forging and tittering, twelve months’ reformative detention. Thomas William Hill, 20. was committed to Borstal for a term n o fc px ‘ ceeding three years, on five charges of breaking entering, and theft. Hugh Selby Whibley. Borstal for two years, for attempted rape at Masiterton. TJjMARU. October 17. At the Supreme Court, Thomas Vim cent’, found guilty on a charge of negligent driving of a motor car causing bodily injury, was fined £25, and his license was cancelled.
